As a recent graduate of CCCS, I am so glad that I decided to take the course, The Art of Medical Interpretation during the fall of 2010.  The course exceeded my expectations.  Students gain an ample understanding of what the role of a Medical Interpreter is, and gain sufficient knowledge in all the areas of medicine that is crucial to accurately interpret a message.  The level of knowledge and information I acquired has given me the ability to efficiently be the bridge of communication between two people that don't speak the same language.  I loved every class and how insightful and well put together the material was.  The language coaching and role plays definitely helped me to be prepared for this field.  As a new interpreter, I am enjoying this career much more than I originally expected, and feel very rewarded and grateful.

My name is Adriana Williams and I am a Portuguese interpreter. Last spring I took the Art of Medical Interpretation course at CCCI. The course helped me build my skills to be a Medical Interpreter, and enhanced my knowledge of medical terminology as well as culture competency and ethics. At the moment, I am working as a freelance interpreter in various hospitals, including: Lowell General Hospital, Lawrence Hospital, Lahey Clinic, Cambridge Health Alliance among others, and of course, CCCS.
CCCI taught me how to face the challenges of interpreting and dealing with different cultures. I am passionate about what I do and I thank the CCCS team for its support and professionalism.

My name is Liz and I currently work as an interpreter at BEVERLY HOSPITAL and CCCS. While I may have had the language skills to communicate in Spanish and Portuguese prior to enrolling at CCCI, I certainly didn't have the very needed medical terminology, anatomy training and complete understanding of the interpreter role. Medical interpreting has a very specific professional protocol and there are many intricacies involved in such a unique profession. The Art of Medical Interpretation absolutely prepared me in all aspects of this exciting profession.
The most important and valuable tool that CCCS provided for me was the deep insight into the interpreter role. Previously I felt interpreting was literally conveying a message from one language to another. However, it's much more robust than that. An interpreter is also a cultural broker --one who understands unique behaviors and the traditions that inspire them.

My name is Max Hadler and I like to think I am an interpreter at a prestigious Northeastern hospital because of personal merit. And while language and people skills surely contributed to my hiring, spending an intensive week of training at CCCS was the most critical piece of the puzzle.
I am 25 years old and have spent three of the past five years living in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Despite speaking fluent Spanish and working part-time as a translator, the idea of being an interpreter never occurred to me. CCCS appealed to me as a place to get certifiable confirmation of bilingual ability, not because I envisioned myself in a health care setting. However, CCCS’s infectious enthusiasm and encouragement, the seriousness with which it treats medical interpreting, and the concrete message of the profession’s importance, were enough to make me reconsider. I am now making my living from medical interpreting, and the balance of methodology, ethics, and language enhancement that CCCS offered are largely responsible.
